Question: Brief information about Ministry of Utilities Sarawak
Answer: Prior to the reshuffling of the Cabinet, utilities sector/industry in the State was under the purview of the Ministry of Finance and Public Utilities. Following the Cabinet reshuffled on the 1st July 2004, the State Government has decided to separate Public Utilities from the Ministry of Finance.
he utilities sector/industry in the State was formerly under the purview of the Ministry of Finance and Public Utilities headed by the State Financial Secretary assigned as the Permanent Secretary for Public Utilities.
With the reshuffling of Cabinet in 1st July 2004, the structure, composition and function of Utility Division was taken out from the organizational structure of State Financial Secretary's Office and transferred to the new Ministry of Public Utilities and headed by its own Permanent Secretary.
In 2017, the name of the Ministry was changed to Ministry of Utilities. The utilities and other functions under the purview of the Ministry are as follows:
Water *includes Rural Water Supply (RWS);
Electricity *includes Rural Electrification Scheme (RES);
Gas; and
Issues pertaining to any construction of dam for water catchments and resettlement issues arising from such projects.
