Question: Towards Access and Equity: The Education of Students with Visual Impairment in New Zealand

Abstract:
This Paper reports on the educational services for students with visual impairment in New Zealand. Data shows that there are 1,139 early childhood and school students of whom four percent are Braille users and 40% have multiple needs. The Government's recently implemented special education policy is outlined, together with spedalist educational provision for students with visual Impairment Issues and trends relating to inclusive education, the parentiprofessional partnership and advocacy, early intervention, students with multiple special needs, services for the Maori population, training and technology are explored.
