Question: Treatments - Down Syndrome

Answer: * Initial intervention program.
* Work therapy.
* Speech therapy.
* Special education.
* Special skills training.

The purpose of rehabilitation treatment is to help the child achieve maximum capabilities and development and be independent. Rehabilitation programmes are available at the Community-Community Rehabilitation Centre (PDK) or in centres organised by non-governmental voluntary organisations. More information can be obtained from local resource centres such as: hospitals (children's clinics), health clinics, the Office of Social Welfare or the Education Office (Special Education Unit).

These children should be registered as early as possible in the Social Welfare Department and the Education Department. This is to enable it to receive care for health, welfare and settlements in special schools so that they receive the perfect education. Treating doctors need to fill out specific forms to make it easier to plan initial intervention programs.

Children registered with the Social Welfare Department are eligible for a number of healthcare privileges from government clinics or hospitals.
