Answer: 1. Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia
Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia was founded in 1986 by medical specialists who realised the need for peer support for women with breast cancer. It is an independent tax-exempt voluntary organisation registered with the Registrar of Societies in Malaysia, and a member of the International Union against Cancer (UICC) and Reach to Recovery International (RRI).
2. MAKNA - Majlis Kanser Nasional/ National Cancer Council, Malaysia
MAKNA (Majlis Kanser Nasional) or National Cancer Council of Malaysia is a not-for-profit social enterprise founded by Dato’ Mohd Farid Ariffin. Inspired by his own son’s fight and struggles with cancer, MAKNA was established in 1994 and officially launched in 1995.
In providing multi-faceted services, MAKNA prides itself as a home grown organisation that continues to play an important part helping cancer patients, regardless of background, race, creed, colour and station. MAKNA is consistently working on improving ways to mobilise its resources effectively for fighting cancer.
3. Malaysian Anti-Cancer Association
Malaysian Anti-Cancer Association in May 2011 approved by the Malaysian Registrar of Societies, by the founder Prof. Dr. C.C.Wong and several of anti-cancer traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine experts formed to cancer patients in Malaysia to provide quality support services to ensure patients do not to face cancer alone.
4. Malaysian Oncology Society
The Malaysian Oncological Society (MOS) was first established in 1976 by senior clinicians from various disciplines namely haematology and gynaecology, with interest in cancer care. As there were only a handful of clinical oncologists then, the MOS president was a haematologist, and later a gynaecologist at some point.
5. Malaysian Society of Paediatric Haematology and Oncology
The Malaysian Society of Paediatric Haematology and Oncology (MASPHO) was formed in 1994.
6. National Cancer Society of Malaysia
A national non-governmental organisation, established in 1966, which provides education, care and support services for people affected by cancer. The Society was founded by the late Dato’ Dr S.K. Dharmalingam, Malaysia’s first oncologist, and was launched by then Prime Minister of Malaysia, the late YAB Tun Abdul Razak. NCSM is now under the distinguished patronage of His Royal Highness Sultan Paduka Seri Sultan Perak Darul Ridzuan, Sultan Nazrin Muizzudin Shah.
