Malaysian has no exception on this. It was quite a worrying issue as any failure of the projects to be completed
on time would portray negative image towards construction industry as well as affecting the economy globally.
Looking into this situation, this paper aims to propose ways in mitigating this issue, but this only can be done,
after a thorough review is made on the causes and its implications towards construction industry. Using
questionnaire surveys and tests such as Kaiser-Meyer Olkin (KMO), Spearman’s ranking correlation,
Cronbach’s alpha reliability test and Garrett ranking method, the results of this paper established that major
causes of abandoned housing projects could be categorised into economic recession, financial problems of
developers, insufficient of legal provisions, poor management and policy, law and regulations. It was found also
that this situation would definitely give several implications on environmental, social and environmental. Hence,
this paper suggests a further research to be conducted to find a workable solution on minimising this issue.
