The establishment of Sarawak Water represents a significant milestones in the Sarawak Government's initiative to consolidate water supply services under a single, unified water utility.
Sarawak Water Sdn. Bhd. was registered with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) on 26 December 2024 following the renaming of LAKU Management Sdn. Bhd.; subsequently, on 1 August 2025, Sarawak Water marked the amalgamation of the Kuching Water Board (KWB), Sibu Water Board (SWB), and LAKU Management into a single water utility to strengthen the delivery of safe, reliable, and sustainable water supply across Sarawak, culminating in its official launch on 28 August 2025 by the Right Honourable Premier of Sarawak, signifying a historic milestone in the transformation of the state’s water supply services.
