Question: Establishment of Brooke Dockyard
Answer: Brooke Dockyard was declared open by Ranee Muda Sylvia (wife of Charles Vyner Brooke) on 31st May 1912. One of the most momentous chapters in the history of the Sarawak Public Works Department. A source of joy for the locals, and was the earliest form of industrial employment in Kuching. Back then, its function was a repair facility for the White Rajah’s boats.
During the Confrontation years – the dry dock became a focal point for repairing all type of military vessels.
