MIRI – One of
Pustaka Miri’s prominent and active Friends of the Library (FOL) – Lucas Johnny
held an Antique Exhibition on Gramophones from 4th February
until 8th March 2013.
The exhibition featured some fifty (50) Lucas’ gramophones, record
players and antique radios, most of which are still functional and playable. He
started collecting the music playback instruments since 1960s when he bought
them from Penang, Malacca, Australia, United Kingdom as well as Sri
Langka.
The exhibition was hoped to give the community in and around Miri City
the opportunity to have a closer look at these antiquities, particularly the
younger generation who may not have seen such beautiful-looking music players.
Visitors to the exhibition were able to meet with the owner who was
more than pleased to share stories and experiences in collecting the rare
entertainment items as well as playing some oldies from his collection of vinyl
records.
Lucas will hold several more exhibitions at Pustaka Miri including the
record attempt to have the longest philately exhibition in May 2013.
