Pustaka Miri to hold public health talk with focus on cancer

Posted on 06 February 2014

MIRI: Pustaka Miri will be holding a public health talk in conjunction with World Cancer Day 2014 on Feb 13.

The
talk entitled ‘What Causes Cancer & How to Treat It?’ will be
facilitated by Dr Selva Kumar, resident ENT specialist from Columbia
Asia Hospital here.

The two-hour talk, which will commence at 2pm
at the library’s auditorium, aims to emulate World Cancer Day’s
objective of improving general knowledge of cancer and dismissing
misconceptions about the disease.

This year’s World Cancer Day,
which was celebrated on Tuesday, has a tagline of ‘Debunk the Myths’. It
focuses on the four myths — Myth 1: We don’t need to talk about cancer,
Myth 2: There are no signs or symptoms of cancer, Myth 3: There’s
nothing I can do about cancer and Myth 4: I don’t have the right to
cancer care.

Admission is free.

However, pre-registration is advised as seats are limited.

For further information and pre-registration of attendance, call Dorithy Dela Lawrence or Margareta Remang at 085-422525.
