Photography can promote beauty of Islam - Jamilah

Posted on 07 July 2014

KUCHING:
The art of photography is a good medium to introduce and explain the
beauty of Islam through images captured with an Islamic context or
perspective.

Puan Sri Datuk Jamilah Anu — the wife of Chief
Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Adenan Satem — said Muslim photographers
should use their talents to depict Islam through their lenses,
especially on traditions, architecture, and daily activities.

“Quality
images on this subject will not only help to explain the religion to
the world but also share and portray the real life of a Muslim,” said
Jamilah during the Images of Islam@Pustaka exhibition on Thursday.

She said art photography will also help in the understanding and true expression of Islam.

Stressing
that photos are a powerful medium to communicate a message, Jamilah
said messages through an image would be able to tell a story, give an
impression and share an expression.

The exhibition featured the work of popular award-winning professional Muslim photographer Susan Baaghil from Saudi Arabia.

Her over 40 images would be exhibited for a month.

Baaghil also delivered a talk entitled ‘Images of Islam’ to over 200 participants.

The
State Library is jointly holding the exhibition with the Islamic
Information Centre (IIC) and Alvin Leong Photography Academy.
