Summary
Agriculture has evolved through various technological revolutions over time. This book examines significant agricultural changes since the mid-1960s, focusing on development, innovation, and adoption, with case studies from Ethiopia, Sweden, and Trinidad and Tobago. It explores the impact of globalization, free trade, and transnational corporations (TNCs) on economic growth, environmental concerns, and food security. As sustainable food production becomes a global priority, reducing ecological footprints is essential. Beyond cutting greenhouse gas emissions, urgent issues such as biodiversity loss, resource exploitation, population growth, consumption patterns, waste, migration, and antibiotic resistance require political attention. Agribusiness TNCs will increasingly challenge national and international efforts in research and development. Achieving sustainability and advancing towards the next agricultural revolution will require a societal shift grounded in an understanding of biological fundamentals.
