Summary
Niche tourism, or special interest tourism, caters to small groups with specialized travel experiences such as ecotourism, rural tourism, birdwatching, dark tourism, and motorcycle tourism. Seen as an alternative to mass tourism, it has gained popularity for addressing issues like overtourism while promoting responsible practices, environmental preservation, and cultural sustainability. Additionally, niche tourism meets the evolving preferences of modern travelers. However, challenges remain, including its overlap with mass tourism, promotion of unsustainable products, and limited economic benefits for local communities. This book, comprising 12 conceptual and empirical chapters, explores global niche tourism cases, examining tourist behavior, resident perspectives, implementation strategies, and future prospects in the context of sustainable tourism development.
