Summary
Reading Childhood Today made me reflect deeply on how growing up today is far more complex than it seems. The book shows how childhood is not a fixed stage of life but constantly reshaped by culture, media, technology, and the expectations placed on children. From my Malaysian perspective, its arguments felt very real — whether it’s kids in kampung areas already immersed in gadgets, or urban children pressured by exams and social media. What struck me most was the reminder that childhood isn’t a single, universal experience; instead, it’s always shaped by the context children live in. The book encouraged me to see children not just as individuals learning and growing on their own, but as part of a larger web of social forces that we, as adults, influence every day.
