Summary
The story is set in Happy Hills Orchard, home to the Little Cherries. The central character, Square, has a strong preference for order and perfection. Square finds that messy things, which at first disturb its sense of order, can also be beautiful in their own way. Through the narrative, Square learns an important lesson about acceptance — that not everything needs to be perfectly neat and that there is value in imperfection and messiness. This theme encourages ideas of flexibility, self-acceptance, and seeing beauty in unexpected places. The accessible/symbolised edition includes visual cues (symbols above key words), illustrations, and sensory features to support readers with diverse needs, such as those with learning difficulties or for whom English is an additional language. It also provides a free signing video and an animated version of the story, designed to support reading and understanding through multiple modes — visual, symbolic, and audio.
