Purpose

This procedure shall ensure the management of conducting User Education Programme is fostered systematically and in accordance with the approved procedure to support the Quality Management System.

Scope

User Education Programme (UEP) is designed to train and educate users to use and benefit fully the facilities and services offered by Pustaka Negeri Sarawak. This programme which is opened to all categories of library users covers various aspects of information management, searching and usage of information resources.

1. Handling the User Education Programme
a) User Education Programme (UEP) in Pustaka Negeri Sarawak shall be categorized as following:
  • Introduce user to facilities and resources in PUSTAKA.
  • Develop library skills.
  • Make user independent user and learners in library.
  • Develop capabilities as self-sufficient users.
  • Provide basic understanding of the library so that users can make efficient use of library material and services.
  • Educate users about information sources and resources and how to exploit such resources effectively and efficiently.
b) The Librarian or Designated Officer (DO) shall do the following for User Education Programme (UEP):
  • Determine of the target group.
  • Determine the UEP module.
  • Scheduling.
  • Implementation.
2. Determination of the Target Groups
a) The Librarian or DO shall determine the target groups based on their information needs.
The information needs of the target group will be determine based on demography information:
  • Gender
  • Age
  • Education background
  • Profession / Occupation
3. Determination of UEP Module

Upon determining the target groups, the Librarian or DO shall refer to the relevant guideline.

  • GL-IS-SB-08 – Preparation for the Information Literacy Class.
  • GL-IS-SB-09 – Preparation for the Family Literacy Class.
  • GL-IS-SB-10 – Preparation for the Online Database Training and Workshop.
  • GL-IS-SB-11 – Preparation for the Library Orientation and Guided Tour.
4. Scheduling
