The Archives Management Division is under the purview of Depository Services Sector mainly deals with State government records and archival materials. According to Sarawak State Library Ordinance, 1999, PART IV: State Depository, Section 14. (1) (d)[1] are to maintain, preserve and keep public records which are more than twenty-five years old, and other documents, papers, instruments and statutes, statutory orders, regulations or decrees, directed by State Secretary to be maintained, preserved and kept in the State Depository on account of their historical value or public importance; and Section 17 (1)(a)[1] to provide for the preservation and use of the library resources.
Functions
Promote the preservation of non-active public records (public records which are more than 25 years old) of the State of Sarawak and other documents, papers, instruments and statues, statutory orders, regulations or decrees, directed by the State Secretary to be maintained, preserved and kept in the State Depository on account of their historical value or public appearances.
- Advice and guide government departments/agencies in records transfer to Pustaka Negeri Sarawak.
- Management and operation of secure repositories for the preservation of records and archives.
- Repatriation of Sarawak’s records and archives from outside Sarawak/Malaysia.
- Rescue records and archives created in 1963 and before in government departments/agencies.
- Digitize and microfilm selective records and archives that has archival or historical value for the State.
- To regulate and conduct awareness programs on the importance of archives management.

- Transfer of records by government departments/agencies.
- Bequeath of archives collection by organization or individuals.
- Accessioning of records and archival materials.
- Arrangement and description of records and archival materials.
- Preservation and conservation of records and archival materials.
Programmes
An Archives Management programme at State Records Repository, Pustaka Negeri Sarawak can help an organisation in the following areas:
- To determine what has continuing value to the organisation and should be managed and preserved within an archives programme.
- To establish standards and procedures for describing archival materials.
- To develop appropriate strategies for increasing awareness and use of archival holdings.
- To identify specifications for services including microfilming and imaging.
- To establish initial conservation priorities and plan for on-going preservation programme.
- To carry out listing/cataloguing of archival holdings.
- To exploit archival material through publication or exhibition.
