Introduction

Pustaka Negeri Sarawak (Pustaka) welcomes bequeath / donation / Waqf from Government, Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) or individuals on any types of materials may it be records, files, books, manuscripts, photographs, maps, coins, journals, newspapers, etc. on Sarawak. Bequeath Program is a community engagement program between Pustaka Negeri Sarawak (Pustaka) and individuals in the state of Sarawak or elsewhere in the world towards building Pustaka’s collection for the preservation of Sarawak’s culture, governance, history, art and heritage and making the collection accessible for the benefit of researchers, the general public and future generations.


How to give Bequeath / Donation / waqf

A bequeath to Pustaka can be made through a will or through a letter of intent. Pustaka provides brief information about bequeath as a general guideline. Pustaka can be consulted on wording its content. Pustaka, however, recommend that potential donor consult their legal adviser before making any decisions regarding the eventual disbursement of their collections.


What to bequeath, donate or waqf?

Pustaka is pleased to accept anything on Sarawak published in Sarawak or elsewhere that Pustaka does not possess which include but not limited to materials such as books, manuscripts, visual arts, photographs, maps, documents, slides, journals, pamphlets, records, files, coins, journals, films, negatives, and newspapers. However, the collection can also be part of a personal collection on family history or Sarawak's history.


Bequeath / Donation / Waqf Collections in Pustaka

Collections received from bequeath, donation or waqf from individuals are kept at Pustaka’s State Records Repository. The collections received shall be processed, preserved and conserved accordingly based on the condition and type of the materials. The utmost care shall be given for the preservation and conservation of the materials. The collections shall be made accessible to the general public for reference or research.

Currently Pustaka received more than 77,000 materials from associations or individuals bequeathed or donated to Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Kuching and Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Miri. Among the major donors were donation from the family of Ho Ah Chon, Brooke Heritage Trust, Sarawak Shell Berhad, Jais Sahok, Jason Brooke, Gwynnedd R. Collins, Dato Sri John Pike, Allahyarham Datuk Haji Mortadza bin Haji Daud, Susi Dunsmore, Eric William Lawrance family, Peter Lawrance, Dr. Trevor Hancock, Christina Andrew-Wellman, George Field Family, Wendy Field, Peter H. Abrahams, Captain Abdul Aziz Ahmed, Captain Goh Chin Guan, Jason Gathorne-Hardy, Lord Medway, Lord Cranbrook, Joseph Jinap anak Miniew, Majlis Adat Istiadat Sarawak and some personal collections received from anonymous.
