Digital Community Centre
Creating Digital Community Centre or DCC is a public space in rural or suurban area equipped with ICT facilities and resourced with information materials or contents to cater for the information needs of the community.
Background
The Digital Community Centre’s Steering Committee, chaired by Deputy State Secretary (Performance and Service Delivery Transformation) with members from other related agencies have identified the need for the establishment of public facilities, equipped with an internet connection, information and communications technology (ICT) equipment, books, creativity space, maker tools, and manned by trained staff, to develop a digital-ready community through developing digital skills and competencies and promoting inclusive digital participation. A pilot project was initiated to establish 20 DCCs that were launched by YAB Chief Minister on 7 October 2020.
With the rapid change in ICT, the roles of libraries have changed from conventional services into more advanced and community-based activities in tandem with the state’s Digital Economy Strategy. DCCs should also be established at these public libraries to take advantage of the existing public libraries infrastructure and human resources, and gives benefits to the local communities that they served.
