Sarawak Digital Economy Strategy 2018-2022

In line with the Sarawak State Government’s Digital Economy initiative 2018-2022 which is to have digital initiative which to have digital inclusivity for the people of Sarawak, Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, in collaboration with Chief Minister’s Department and Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) embarks on , a digital literacy program for the communities.

Objective:

- To enhance the competency and readiness of all communities for digital economy.

Strategic Action:

Action 47 of Sarawak Digital Economy 2018-2022

To establish a digital-ready community through developing digital skills and competencies and promoting inclusive digital participation.

Target Communities:
i. Students (Primary & Secondary)
ii. Millennials (18 – 25 yrs)
iii. Young Adults (26 – 35 yrs)
iv. Women Entrepreneurs
v. Public Service Officers

PANDei ‘Train The Trainer’ (ToT)Workshop

Starting April 2018, in order to implement the initiative statewide, we adopt the ‘Train The Trainer’ (ToT) Workshop approach on program implementation for the public and village libraries at the northern, central and southern regions of the state. This workshop has exposed the participants to Digital and Media Literacy program within libraries and at community level as to provide online transaction skills for the people in Sarawak. It targets assistant librarians, library assistants, library supervisors as well as volunteers. Each participant is trained and given the modules to teach the surrounding community.

- 38,500 beneficiaries are expected (2018)

- Sarawak citizens able to locate, evaluate and use effectively the needed information

Openlearning PANDei

The main purpose of this workshop is to acquire skills in the use of information technology, search and evaluation of digital information. Rural communities will become more digitally literate as they become familiar with the use of information technology and incorporate technology into their daily lives. Each course participant will be trained using the PANDei module to educate the local community towards comprehensive digital inclusiveness. Among the PANDei (People Accessible Network for Digital Empowerment and Inclusivity) modules are as follows:

  • Module 1: Pengurusan Maklumat dan Komunikasi
  • Module 2: Menggunakan Inisiatif Digital Kerajaan
  • Module 3: Berurusan Secara Digital
  • Module 4: Keselamatan dalam Talian
  • Module 5: Pustaka in a Box

This PANDei module equips the local community with basic digital skills so that they know how to use their mobile devices to connect with others better and easier. These skills are in line with daily activities such as searching for information online, communicating via email or chat applications, conducting electronic transactions or payments online, and using government-initiated digital services. This PANDei module also contains a curriculum on cybersecurity and the ability to assess the authenticity of information, to help raise awareness as well as ensure consumer safety in the digital world.

At the end of this course, you will hopefully be able to:

  • Using government initiative applications
  • Using e-entrepreneurship skills to improve living standards
  • Knowing manners and responsibilities as a digital citizen
  • Using Pustaka in a box library (offline device) as a source of information
  • Using digital communication channels
