A scene of Kuching town by Sarawak river
Foo Syn Choon has the ability to record quite accurately what he viewed across the Sarawak River, embellishing his work with romantic or imaginary overtones. Thus, his watercolors capture his subjects as they were, which also provided valuable historical records of the places during his painting career. Among the techniques he learned were how to use secondary and tertiary colors for certain effects. He observed how small, subtle change could make the difference between a great painting and not-so-great painting. Foo Syn Choon`s paintings, though purely representations evoke sensations; the earthy smell of the riverbanks, the cool breezes coming from the water and the tranquility of the overall scene.
