KUCHING: The State Library ‘Sarawak’s Authors Highlight Programme’
received an overwhelming response of more than 60 writers, students, and
school teachers attending its seminar on ‘Pemikiran Jais Sahok’.
The
two-day seminar featured Jais Sahok, a local writer who shared his
knowledge and creative thinking skills in the literature world.
He
also talked about the importance of depositing copies of publications
of publishers and authors in libraries to preserve the nation’s literary
heritage and make them available to present and future generations.
The
seminar also included a ‘Legal Deposit of Publications’ programme to
create an awareness on legal deposit which is a statutory provision that
obliges publishers to deposit copies of their publications in libraries
in the country in which they are published.
Section 15(1) of the
Sarawak State Library Ordinance 1999 requires the author or publisher of
every printed library resource published in Sarawak to deposit five
copies of print and two copies of non-print publication.
Printed
publication include books, serials, maps, charts and posters, while
non-print publication include cinematograph films, microfilms,
phonorecords, video and audio recordings and other electronic media.
