Makerspaces can be any area where people gather to make, create, invent and learn. These spaces often include technologies that could help achieving the primary objectives of maker faire. Makerspaces grew out of maker culture--a group of people dedicated to craftsmanship and creation. Makerism focuses on DIY projects, and makers value creation by individuals or small groups rather than bulk production. In general, makerism is also a culture of creation over consumption. Many libraries have found that maker culture and Makerspaces fit naturally with their existing missions, and have begun to incorporate Makerspaces into the services they offer their communities.
Makerspace is intended to allow community members to experience technology or activities that they previously were not able to access. As many maker spaces include technology like 3D Printers, Arduino,Coding and Robotics, patrons are invited to experiment freely. The purpose of a makerspace is often expressed to be inspiring an interest in science, technology, design, and life-long learning in the people who are served by the library.
No. | Classes/Items/Equipment | Description |
1. | 3D Printers
|
A machine allowing the creation of a physical object from a three-dimensional digital model, typically by laying down many thin layers of a material in succession. |
2. | AIRBLOCK |
Modular and programmable flying robot. The structure based comprising one main module and six propeller modules with magnetic connectors makes it easy to transform in creative ways, and incredibly fun. Go from drone to hovercraft, to your own DIY project in just a few snaps. |
3. | MAKEBLOCK NEURON |
Makeblock Neuron Is a Lego-Like, Plug-and-Play Electronics Platform for STEM. Neuron is a set of 30 programmable electronic building blocks, each with different functions that snap together to create a variety of innovative gadgets |
4. | mBOT |
Ideal robot for children to build and code. mBot is a STEAM education robot for beginners, that makes teaching and learning robot programming simple and fun. With just a screwdriver, the step by step instructions, and a study schedule, children can build a robot from scratch and experience the joys of hands-on creation. As they go, they will learn about a variety of robotic machinery and electronic parts, get to grips with the fundamentals of block-based programming, and develop their logical thinking and design skills. |
5. | 3DOODLER |
The 3Doodler works by extruding heated plastic that cools almost instantly into a solid, stable structure, allowing for the free-hand creation of three-dimensional objects. |
6. | ARDUINO |
Arduino is an open source computer hardware and software company, project, and user community that designs and manufactures single-board microcontrollers and microcontroller kits for building digital devices and interactive objects that can sense and control objects in the physical and digital world. |
7. | Makey Makey |
An Invention Kit for Everyone, is an electronic invention tool and toy that allows users to connect everyday objects to computer programs. Using a circuit board, alligator clips, and a USB cable, the toy uses closed loop electrical signals to send the computer either a keyboard stroke or mouse click signal. This function allows the Makey Makey to work with any computer program or webpage since all computer programs and webpages take keyboard and mouse click inputs. |
