Nur Amanina Mastani in 2022

Nur Amanina Mastani is a 29 year-old librarian and currently serves as Head of Sarawakiana Division, Sibu in Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Sibu campus.

Early Life

She was born on 28th August 1993 in Miri, Sarawak. Born eldest in the family, she has three other siblings; one little sister and two little brothers. Her father, Mastani bin Hamid is a driver/office assistant with Sedidik Sdn Bhd while her mother, Noraini binti Husaini, is a customer sales representative officer with Public Bank Berhad.

As a child, she enjoyed art and music a lot. Art and music was a big part of her childhood as her grandparents would turn on the karaoke machine or P. Ramlee movies for them whenever they come over to their house. According to her mother, karaoke has helped her learn how to read at an early age of 5 years old. She was inspired to learn English after her father read her a story book in English. As a result, she is proficient in English with Band 4 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET).

Educational Background

She started her early education in Tadika Bina Hikmah, Miri before passing the entrance exams for the prestigious SK Agama (MIS) Miri for primary education where she obtained 6As in her UPSR. She went on to secondary education, achieving 5A,3B for Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) and 3A, 2B, 3C, 1D for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM).

She went to further her studies in mid 2011 and completed her Diploma in Information Management in October 2013 with a 3.56 CGPA. She then pursued her Bachelor's Degree in Records Management, minoring in Systems in 2014 and completed it in June of 2016 with a 3.48 CGPA.

Career

2010 - 2011: Post SPM part time job

After SPM, she took up a part time job with Parkson, working in retail by selling handbags. Her salary was paid according to hour, where she received RM3.50 per hour rate. She resigned from the position to further her studies in June 2011.

2011 - 2016: Part time job with Twinzbites

In between semesters, she took up a part time job with Twinzbites Sdn Bhd, selling cookies and cakes in their Bintang Megamall's kiosk. This experience taught her how to handle customers and take their requests into consideration which helped build her confidence in facing people.

2016 - 2017 Post Bachelor's Degree

After completing her Bachelor's Degree, she became a full time promoter with Twinzbites kiosk before the kiosk ceased operations in April 2017. She joined their booth in Ramadhan Bazaar located in Indoor Stadium, Miri while also applying to other jobs. She was briefly unemployed with unsuccessful results after a few interviews.

2017 - 2018: Miri Marriott Resort & Spa

She landed a job with Miri Marriott as their At Your Service agent, handling phone calls and guest requests through GXP application in order to make their travelling experience better. Over the course of 1 year and 2 months, she learned the ropes of becoming an efficient team player and what it means to be a hotelier.

2018 - present: Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Sibu

Throughout 2018, she went through the recruitment process by Pustaka Negeri Sarawak where she attended the preliminary exams and attended two interviews before landing the librarian post for Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Sibu. Reported for duty on 15th November 2018, she was appointed as a staff under Technical Services Division, heading the Sarawakiana Unit. She had one staff joining her in the unit in November 2019, Ms Norzieana binti Mohammad Nasir who assists in responsibilities for the Sarawakiana Unit.

In January 2021, she was appointed to head Depository Services Division, with an additional 2 staff (Ms Georgiana Usun Jok and Ms Karen Angelina Lim) joining her in the new division. The division was then renamed to Sarawakiana Division in January 2022.

Throughout her career, she has been appointed in various committee which builds her knowledge even more. Among the activities she was involved with includes:

Personal Life

Amanina enjoys music and art ever since she was little, and it shows through her appreciation of songs, literature and art. Her favourite genre to listen to includes R&B and hiphop and her favourite artists includes BTS, Chris Brown and Beyonce to name a few. She enjoys reading self-help books and occasional chicklit to pass time. As she grew older, her appreciation for paintings, murals, poems and lyricism deepened.
