Main Function of Archives Management Division
The main functions of the archives management is based on "Sarawak State Library Ordinance, 1999: Incorporating all amendments up to 30th November 2010 : Part IV State Depository" section 14-(1) as follows:
There is established a State Depository which shall be part of the Sarawak State Library and which shall have the following objectives:
(d) to maintain, preserve and keep public records which are more than twenty-five years old, and other documents, papers, instruments, and statutes, statutory orders, regulations or decrees, directed by the State Secretary to be maintained, preserved and kept in the State Depository on account of their historical value or public importance.
Other functions:
- Storage and preservation of archives and public records that are not active (public records that are over the age of 25 years) and other documents, tools and statutory acts, regulations or order, address directed by the State Secretary for maintained, preserved and stored in the repository of historic value because of State or public interest.
- To manage the administration of the transfer of public records and archives to State Records Repository.
- Apply methods of preservation of archives and public records
- To exercise control over retention and disposal of public records that have been transferred to the State Record Repository.
- To provide storage facilities at all public records.
- To regulate the management of administrative public records that has been transferred to the State Record Repository.
- To regulate and conduct awareness programmes on the importance of archives.
