Summary
Family child care homes: creative spaces for children to learn by Linda J. Armstrongdedicated to all the family care providers who welcome children and families into their homes every day. This book mentioned that the look and feel of home is ignored and family child care environments take on appearance of mini development centers. For instance, walls display commercial photos of children in India or Nepal, interest center signs are placed at adult eye level, and mobiles hang from ceiling everywhere. For whatever reason, many FCC environments have lost their home style atmosphere. This book will bring readers back the feeling of home in family care. Furthermore, this book highlighted and challenges readers to set aside center-based notions of what a child care setting should include and helps to think more deeply about the real advantages of providing child care in their family’s home setting. It is a good book which contents a lot of suggestions to arrange furniture, store materials, declutter the child care space, and select items that address the needs of all children in your care. Plus, the useful checklists and resources for quick reference help to identify problematic areas in the environment, set up multiuse learning areas and locate additional sources information. All the ideas and the suggestions presented in the book is based the author’s visits to hundreds of FCC homes, input from FCC providers and years of motherhood and now as grand motherhood.
