Pustaka Miri is continuing its effort in promoting lifelong learning and knowledge sharing by organizing several more activities next month (July 2009).
Starting off the month is an exciting activity jointly organized by Kelab ANSARA Miri, Gajah-gajah Gallery and Pustaka Miri titled Family Art Workshop with Yusof ‘Gajah’.
Themed ‘Life is Beautiful’, the workshop on 4th July 2009 will see the renowned artist whose real name is Mohd. Yusof b. Ismail, guides and teaches the participants to express themselves through painting.
It will be from 8:00am to 1:00pm and families between three (3) to six (6) members per family will have the chance to paint on canvas using acrylics.
Yusof, 55, is famous for being a naïve artist and his particular interest is in elephants, hence the name Yusof ‘Gajah’. He has held a number of exhibitions in
Naïve art is a form of art where the artist is not bound by formalities such as following the rules of shapes and form, thus it often results in artistic impressions of what the artist feels about the object rather than depicting the object as it is.
Also on the same day, Pustaka Miri will have its Annual Blood Donation Drive starting from 9:00am to 12:00nn. It is a yearly activity held together with Miri Blood Bank since 2004.
The library invites regular and new donors to support the campaign as part of social obligations in helping those in needs. Successful donors will bring home tokens of appreciation and light refreshment will be served.
Apart from that, the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Miri Chapter will hold an Organ Donation Campaign and Exhibition as to create better awareness of the importance of pledging one’s organ(s) to help others.
